Company Cut Backs and Economic Down Falls is Making it Difficult for Experienced Professionals to Find a Job
It can be overwhelming at out how quick things can change. One minute you’re going about your life like you’ve been for as long as you can remember and then the next minute, everything changes. I found out a couple of months ago that I would soon be out of a job. If you haven’t been through something like this before, let me tell you, it is such an overwhelming feeling. Here recently that is all you hear about is people losing their jobs and you never stop and think “What if this happened to me?” I’ve seen people lose their homes, businesses, and jobs. I never thought that it could actually happen to me. In East Tennessee jobs have become extremely difficult to come by. Job lay offs have quickly outnumbered creation of jobs and most companies are currently operating under hiring freezes. The current job market has become so volatile that even seasoned veterans in their chosen fields are finding it extremely difficult to find employment.
It’s a scary feeling not knowing exactly how long you have left. I actually found out a couple of days ago that when I come back from vacation I will only have one week left to work. Even though I lost all of my vacation and personal days I feel blessed to have had a month and a half notice to look for a job. For a lot of us recently jobless, unemployment is an option but is supposedly taking at least a month or two to receive the first check. In the state of Tennessee the maximum payout is $275 per week. Sure that’s better than nothing but most people will struggle if not sink having their income reduced to that level. The reality is that everyone who is employed should feel blessed at this point.
